Center for Resiliency Disaster Preparedness Backpack Distribution for SmartStorm Participants

Date: Thursday, Oct. 19, 11:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
Location: LU Cherry Building

The LU Center for Resiliency will be distributing backpacks to those who have completed the SmartStorm training modules. Distributions will take place on Thursdays in the Center for Resiliency lobby from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Verification of module completion is required to receive a backpack.

Swamp Pop: Lecture and Live Performance

Date: Friday, Oct. 20, 6:30 - 8:30 p.m.
Location: McFaddin-Ward House Museum (1906 Calder Avenue, Beaumont)

Center Fellow and LU Music graduate student Rachel Stiles will talk about the history of Swamp Pop -- a music genre unique to Southeast Texas and Southwest Louisiana -- followed by a live performance by Jivin' Gene Bourgeois and Eazy. Admission is free.

The Student Health Center will host a blood drive sponsored by LifeShare Blood Center on Tuesday, October 24 and Wednesday, October 25, 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Anyone in good health who is at least 16 years of age and weighing at least 110 pounds, can donate blood. The 7th annual Lamar Brass Festival will take place Tuesday, October 24 through Thursday, October 26 at St. Anthony Cathedral Basilica. Each concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. and will honor our country and all those who serve and have served in the Armed Forces. The first concert will feature the United States Air Force Freedom Brass. Cardinal Connect Laptop Loaner Program Available to Students
Cardinal Connect Laptop Loaner Program

Location: Mary and John Gray Library, 1st Floor

成人VR影片 provides loaner laptops to LU students as a courtesy and at no charge. Laptops are available for both short-term checkouts (up to three days) and long-term checkouts (up to eight weeks). You must be a current student at LU to be eligible for this program.

For more information, visit the Information Technology (I.T.) Service Desk on the 1st floor of the Mary and John Gray Library. You will need to present your LU Student Cardinal One card. No other forms of identification will be accepted. Laptops are available on a “first come, first served” basis.

Blackboard Courses From 2019 or Earlier Will Be Removed Beginning Oct. 12

Beginning October 12, access to Blackboard courses created in 2019 or earlier will no longer be available. This means that any courses, materials and content associated with these older courses will be archived and no longer accessible through the Blackboard platform. 

For faculty, this change means that you must ensure that any course materials and resources you plan to use in the future are located in your current Blackboard courses or saved to a local drive. NOTE: This process will not impact course templates -- only previously completed course sections with actual student enrollments.

Call for Proposals for Undergraduate Research

The Office of Undergraduate Research is seeking proposals from undergraduate students in all areas of discipline at 成人VR影片. Recipients will receive up to $2,000 in research funds and the opportunity to present their research at EXPO 2024. Submissions will be accepted until November 15.

Center for Resiliency Launches New SmartStorm Initiative

The LU Center for Resiliency has launched a new distance learning portal, , that will provide useful and critical information for preparing for and coping with the effects of hurricanes, floods and damaging weather. Three courses will be available with certificates and a disaster preparedness backpack, while supplies last.

Pulse Magazine
Submit to Pulse, LU's Student Literary Magazine

Deadline: Friday, Dec. 15, 12:00 a.m.

Submissions will be open from October 15 to December 15 for Pulse magazine. Submission categories include: poetry, short fiction, scholarly essays, creative nonfiction, poetry in translation, and art. Submissions are open to all students, regardless of major. $100 prizes will be given for each category. A publication release party and reading event will be held in May of 2024.

Have something to share?  (e.g., events, publications, faculty research, awards, departmental congratulations, grants, etc.) and the Office of Marketing Communications will get the word out through emails, web, social media and more. 

All approved announcements must be received by Thursday at 3 p.m. to be included in the following week's campus update.
